There are more than 70 species of large-leafed rhizomatous and tuberous perennials in this genus from tropical southern and Southeast Asia. They have heart shaped to arrowhead shaped leaves from 8 inches to 36 inches long.... Alocasia robusta has the record for the largest foliage with leaves 12 by 8 feet in size. Alocasias are closely related to Colocasias and Xanthosomas with the distinction being in DNA details and the flowers.
