  • CYCADS

Cycads are an ancient group of seed plants with a crown of large compound leaves and a stout trunk. Cycads are not well known since only one or two species are fairly common house or garden plants. One example is the Sago Palm. Cycads are usually linked to Palms or Ferns but are not related to either one. Although Cycads are grouped with gymnosperms thay are actually unrelated to any other group of living plants.

Cycads flourished millions of years ago, reaching their peak in the Mesozoic Era around 150 years ago. Today They are regarded as relics consisiting of small populations distributed on many continents with a large amount facing possible extinction in the wild.
