Since we don't do this for a living we have no problem referring you to businesses, services or collectors we've dealt with over the years. A lot of these indivisuals we've met in person and are now close friends. I thank them all for the advise, information and specimens I've aquired from them over the years. If it wasn't for them I probably would have a single hanging pot of Pothos in the Living Room ( variegated of course..)
Here are some links to our favorite people and places
Keep Brevard Beautiful I have personally worked with KBB for about 7 years on various projects with a crew I supervised until I took another job position with the State of Florida. Their mission is to motivate and educate business, school, group and individual partnerships to reduce liter, recycle, landscape and beautify for the environment and economic benefit of Brevard County Florida. The people who work for Keep Brevard Beautiful are great… Larry Weber, Pat Brown, Linda Nichols, Jim Kriewaldt, Vicky Croft and anyone else who has joined them since I last worked with them. Oh, I forgot my furry buddy Max. I thank them for allowing me to work with them and help eradicate my archenemy, the Brazilian Pepper Tree.
Besides the trash clean ups along the roads and highways here in Brevard County there are many events that KBB are involved in behind the scenes. Some of these events are the “Trash Bashes” they have had for like 20 years, Spoil Island clean ups, St. Johns River Clean up, Spring Fest (previously called Sea Fest), Easter Surf Fest and many more.
If you would like to become a part of this great organization, please contact them. Keep Brevard Beautiful is a registered non profit corporation.
- Alasdair MacLeod Plant Brokerage and Landscaping Alasdair and Monica MacLeod operate the Florida licensed and insured plant brokerage, Alasdair MacLeod Plant Brokerage and Landscaping, on a quarter-acre botanical garden consisting of over 1200 rare plants, trees and palms in Lakewood Park, Florida - located just south of Vero Beach, Florida. During spring and summer, they sell many unusual and rare plants under the eBay id: gothiclion. Throughout the year however, they locate many unique species for their clientele and specialize in designing and installing geographically themed landscapes, such as Hawaiian, Polynesian, Southeast Asia, Austrailian, South American, and African, to name a few. The MacLeod's have a passion for plants and are always interested in helping locate that one-of-a-kind species for which you've been searching and ship within the United States. For their specialized landscaping services and personal delivery of large trees and palms, they cover from Orlando to Daytona and the entire area south to Coral Gables. They also offer initial on-site consultations at no charge for those interested in totally re-designing their landscape or even just changing one planting bed. I've had the pleasure of meeting the MacLeods on a few occasions, they are great people. Alasdair and Monica MacLeod can be reached at rareplantbroker@yahoo.com or by phone at 772-468-0570.
- Asiatica I have aquired many plants from Asiatica, plants you can't find anywhere else. Barry Yinger, Andy Wong and Jane Wolf are great.
- Aloha Hoya Aloha Hoya is located on the island of Hawaii. I've dealt with Carol Noel for a few years now, she's a fantastic person.
- Chumley Cycads I've had the pleasure of visiting Robert Chumley at the Chumley Estate in Plant City, Florida. He is the most knowledgable Cycad collector out there. Bob has the most extensive collection of variegated and mutated Cycads I've ever seen. His huge variegated Cycas taitungensis had Sherm and I hypnotized.
- Natural Selections Exotics This place is unreal and you won't be disappointed with their plants... beautiful. We had the pleasure to visit Enid and Sam at Natural Selections Exotics in Ft. Lauderdale Florida, the nicest people you'll ever want to meet.
- Montoso Gardens is a botanical garden and online nursery specializing in exotic tropical fruit trees and seeds, heliconias, gingers, bromeliads, palms and other rare tropical plants. Many thanks goes out to Bryan for letting us borrow some descriptions used on our website (Gingers and Heliconias).
