The Strelitziaceae family is a group of monocot (compared to dicots.... the differences would take up an entire website) flowering plants that are native to tropical South America, southeastern Africa and Madagascar.The family includes 3 genera and 7 species. The best known species is the Bird of Paradise, Strelitzia reginae. Another species is Strelitzia nicolai, a larger species commonly known as the Giant or White Bird of Paradise.

Variegated Bird of Paradises are extremely rare which justifies a page all to themselves.
